The black stallion breathed in the cool mountain air in content. He was standing on a rock face, staring out into the mountain valley. The trees were beginning to loose their leaves as autumn drew in, creating the most beautiful colours he had  ever seen. 

He whinnied before rearing and relishing the feel of the wind through his hair. The landscape seemed empty, but he knew if he looked properly much life could be spotted getting on with their lives. 

A rather large life form caught his eyes. There were two horses far, far down in the valley. They were both rather distinctive colours, and he knew he'd never met them before. The stallion nickered then snorted before bolting off down the cliff ledge and towards the valley centre.

The only sound that could be heard as he ran was his heavy and powerful hoof beats. He laid his ears back and snorted as he tried to gain speed, running faster and faster, racing something, but nothing.

The stallion reached the grass quicker than he expected, and flew off the tiny hill onto the soft terrain faster than planned. He landed heavily and almost lost his footing. The stallion flung his head up and just managed not to trip over. That would have been embarrassing. 

The duo of unfamiliar horses seemed to notice him as he made his way over to them, and moved around skittishly, as if having an argument on what they should do. 

The more subtly coloured horse turned  in his direction and started running to meet him, raising and tossing his head in challenge. 

The black Stallion held his head high and ran to the challenge, until he noticed the rather intimidating set of horns on the stallions head. 

He made a rather confused and concerned face before slowing and swerving to avoid him when they reached. The champagne stallion gave him a angry look and they had a semi stare off until the mare strolled over. Semi because the black stallion was actually just frozen in fear. 

The younger stallion thought he was safe until he received a rather shocking surprise in the form of a nip on the butt. He jumped and leaped forward, spinning round to see the mare, with ears flung black, giving him a threatening look. 

The stallion decided to retreat to safety and set off away from them, only to find they followed him, almost finding it amusing. 

He looked back at them and slowed to a stop, this time they didn't threaten him just greeted. The stallion was rather shaken, but accepted the greeting with respect. 

They then messed around in the valley. He was unsure on whether they were on friendly terms but he enjoyed the socializing. 

Eventually the older stallion stopped mucking around and proceeded to graze, the black stallion halted and looked at him for a bit then to the are who was going off on her own leaping around. 

Today's fun must be over, he thought and reared in content before setting off back to the mountains. 

He reached his throne cliff huffing and puffing, and turned round to try spot the other two. They were just small specks in the distance and he snorted before walking back down the hill.

Enjoying ruling his domain unchallanged, but content with the fact there were friends near by too.
